Start your year covering an exciting beat at a weekly newspaper that reports news in one of the most corrupt counties in the country. The Rio Grande Sun is a 10,000 circulation weekly in Española, N.M. Our home-grown politicians have no shame and provide continuous entertainment for hungry readers. We need a city reporter to cover a city that’s three years behind in its audits, half the planning department quit, is broke and one city councilor had to quit because he was indicted for pistol whipping someone at a gas station, then shooting at the couple as they drove away. Our city manager met none of the requirements for the advertised job but the mayor still appointed him and the council unanimously ratified his appointment. It’s nonstop fun for someone interested in writing news. If chamber of commerce gatherings, ribbon cuttings and rotary club speaker profiles are your bailiwick, please don’t apply. Open records/meetings fight are a regular part of the job. Great work environment if you like to report, investigate and write news. Before applying, please read “about us” on our web site and Google Rio Arriba County. Send resume to Robert Trapp
