Sports Editor

Description:

El Rito Media is looking for an experienced sports journalist to join our team as the sports editor for both the Ruidoso News and Alamogordo News in New Mexico.

Responsibilities include:

• Gathering and reporting news on sports teams in the Ruidoso and Alamogordo areas.

• Shooting and editing photos and videos of athletic events.

• Preparing a sports budget for both the Ruidoso News and Alamogordo News.

We are a digital-first company that is looking for individuals who understand the importance of posting content online in a timely manner. We publish a weekly newspaper in both markets, but the desired candidate should prioritize digital content.

El Rito Media is also a young company that runs six news operations – including five newspapers and a digital-only newspaper – that is looking for scrappy individuals who are ready to learn and make significant progress in their career, so recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will also be a self-starter who is expected to come up with feature story ideas and be able to execute them.

Ruidoso is a beautiful mountain town with world-class sporting events, including the IRONMAN 70.3 and the XTERRA World Championships.

If interested, please send resume, cover letter and writing/video samples to mcarrillo@elritomedia.com.
