STAFF REPORTER – SPORTS & GENERAL NEWS

Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post | Fredericksburg, Texas

The Fredericksburg Standard-Radio Post, an award-winning community newspaper serving the Texas Hill Country and part of Texas Local Media, is seeking a motivated and dependable Staff Reporter with a primary focus on local sports coverage to join our newsroom team.

We are looking for a journalist who enjoys covering high school athletics, connecting with the community, and telling stories that matter to local readers. This position will primarily cover local sports, including games, athletes, coaches, and athletic programs, while also contributing to general news and community coverage as needed.

Responsibilities

• Report on local high school sports, including games, team achievements, athlete profiles, and features.

• Attend sporting events, conduct interviews, and build relationships with coaches, athletes, and community members.

• Research, report, and write accurate, engaging stories for print and digital publication.

• Assist with general news, community events, and feature coverage as needed.

• Take photos and contribute to digital and social media content.

• Meet publication deadlines and collaborate with editors on coverage planning.

Qualifications

• Strong writing, reporting, and communication skills.

• Interest in and knowledge of high school and community sports.

• Ability to work independently, manage deadlines, and cover evening or weekend events as needed.

• Photography and social media experience preferred.

• Journalism degree or relevant reporting experience preferred, but not required.

• Familiarity with Texas Hill Country communities is a plus.
