The Daily News of Longview, Wash., is looking for a local news reporter to cover several beats, including courts. We're a small paper with big aspirations. Despite our size, we continue doing watchdog and enterprise reporting. On big breaking news stories we always hold our own or beat bigger competitors, both online and in print. We've won numerous awards for spot news, feature, investigative and explanatory journalism, and we're looking for an ambitious, curious and dedicated journalist to join our team. Our staff is close-knit, fun-loving and hard working. Longview, a blue-collar community struggling to find its way in a post-industrial era, is a lively news town. And there are few newspapers as closely connected to and scrutinized by its readers than The Daily News. We're located about 45 minutes north of Portland, Ore., on the Columbia River. We're only an hour's drive from the Pacific Ocean, so cultural and outdoors activities are close by. While we'd prefer someone with a few years' experience, we welcome fresh j-school graduates to apply. We have developed a reputation for mentoring young reporters.

As part of Lee Enterprises (www.lee.net), The Daily News offers a full benefits package, along with a professional and comfortable work environment focused on growth opportunities for employees. We are an equal opportunity employer and a drug-free workplace. All applicants considered for employment must pass a post-offer drug screen, background and DMV check prior to commencing employment. To learn more about our paper visit our web site at www.tdn.com.

To apply please go online at www.tdn.com/workhere. For consideration you must attach a cover letter, resume and five of your best clips (linking to them is fine). Applications that are not accompanied by writing samples or links will NOT be considered.
