Description:

Community reporter near the mountains!

Come work and play in a great part of the Rocky Mountain West!

The Lovell Chronicle, an award-winning community weekly in the spectacular Big Horn Basin of northwest Wyoming, has an opening for a general assignment reporter to help report and write the news for our hometown, family-owned newspaper.

This has been a very stable job in a fine community. Tight knit staff in a friendly town.

We’re looking for a versatile journalist who can report and write hard news and general community topics, handle a camera and help cover local sports.

This is a perfect step up for a reporter with some experience who wants to put his or her mark on a strong community weekly and/or a college graduate who wants to learn journalism in the great incubator that is a community newspaper. Our paper has a rich tradition of journalism and has consistently been judged one of the top weekly newspapers in Wyoming.

This job will give you the freedom that comes with independent community journalism. The Chronicle has had just two family owners in the last 98 years and five publishers during that time.

Lovell, the Rose City of Wyoming, is located in the north end of Wyoming’s Big Horn Basin at the doorstep of the beautiful Big Horn Mountains to the east and Montana’s Pryor Mountains, famous for wild mustangs, to the north. Bountiful recreation opportunities are minutes away. We are the gateway town for the Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, home of the spectacular Big Horn Canyon and the 70-mile Big Horn Lake – an area great for hiking, photography, boating, camping, fishing, kayaking and exploring. Yellowstone is less than two hours to the west, Billings for concerts and entertainment an hour and a half to the north and the college town of Powell 20 minutes to the west.

You can get up on a weekend morning and be standing on Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone or hiking a trail in the Big Horns before noon.

Friendly, small but active community with lots of things happening, with top rated hospital and schools, a dynamite fitness center and great parks with a splash pad, new skate park and more on the way. Great location with Wyoming’s mildest weather plus boundless recreation and a fantastic quality of life. Lovell is the adventure and recreation capital of the West. We may not have a Wal-Mart, but what you will really enjoy is being engaged in a small community where people love their newspaper.

Competitive salary and benefits.

From our recent longtime reporter:

"You can't find a better, more genuine, more friendly collection of people than the folks who work at the Lovell Chronicle. I'll always cherish the time I spent there.

"The paper is community journalism in its highest regard, devoted to serving, representing, improving, and advocating for its community. Its readership is loyal and cares about it. You'll know you are doing work that matters.

"At the same time, you will have the freedom to find your voice. There is a lot of room to make the role your own and do the work that means something to you.

"You won't be bored! There are rich opportunities for you to delve into all kinds of reporting - environment, education, healthcare, politics, community events, history, sports. You'll meet and know people from every walk of life. You'll find something new around the corner every day.

"The Lovell Chronicle has been well-recognized statewide for the quality of its journalism - I'd hazard to say that it does it as well, if not better, than any paper its size in the country. It's because it is created by humble, everyday people committed to serving their community and giving it the best, most informative, most meaningful newspaper they can. It's a proud tradition you can carry forward and thrive in."
