Description:
The Associated Press seeks a Deputy South Editor based in Atlanta.

The Deputy South Editor works closely with the South Editor to direct news coverage across all formats in a region that includes 13 states (Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana) plus the District of Columbia. This deputy is a journalist with exceptional news judgment, a leader able to identify and drive compelling coverage in an intensely competitive, deadline-driven environment. The successful candidate will lead aggressive, all-formats spot and enterprise coverage of an array of issues, including government and politics, the military, crime, and the economy.

The editor will: -Work closely with journalists throughout the region to set the agenda for a compelling, aggressive news report -Identify and drive enterprise off the news that is timely, focused and distinctive -Thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment -Collaborate across multiple formats on news coverage of statewide, national and global interest

Qualifications: The Deputy South Editor must be a strong leader with the desire and ability to drive changes envisioned in a constantly evolving newsroom. The job requires organizational skills, creativity and a broad understanding of global, national and state news perspectives. The editor should have experience managing and collaborating with talented journalists. The editor must have experience in editing and news management. The ideal candidate will be calm under pressure, a tireless worker and an effective communicator. Experience in accountability or investigative journalism is a major plus.  Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English language is required.  Authorization to work in the US for any employer is mandatory.
