Description

Are you an accomplished photographer and an up-and-coming news reporter? Can you move comfortably from a city council meeting to a kindergarten classroom, unearthing the poignant story at each? Are you a self-motivated writer with a penchant for community journalism? Do you understand how print, web and social media all work together to provide your readers compelling content?

If so, the Winter Park/Maitland Observer has an immediate opening on its dynamic staff.

This position will require excellence in all facets of journalism — photography, writer, web/social media, editing and proofreading. Tasks will include coverage of a variety of beats, including news, features, arts, sports, real estate, etc.

The ideal candidate has experience and demonstrated excellence in photography and news reporting. If you have passion, vision and a knack for innovation, we want to talk to you. If you want to be part of a growing media organization that consistently ranks among the top newspaper companies in the country, this position is for you.

Known for its excellent dining options, renowned Sidewalk Art Festival and rich arts culture history, Winter Park is a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike.

Observer Media Group’s Orange County bureau includes three weekly community newspapers — the West Orange Times & Observer, Windermere Observer and Winter Park/Maitland Observer — a community magazine, Baldwin Park Living, a website, OrangeObserver.com, and accompanying social-media platforms. We have offices in both Winter Garden and Winter Park.

In addition to its three Orange County newspapers, the company owns and operates nine other newspapers throughout the state: Sarasota Observer, Siesta Key Observer, Longboat Observer, East County Observer, Business Observer, all based in Sarasota; Plant City Times & Observer; Ormond Beach Observer; Palm Coast Observer; and Financial News & Daily Record, Jacksonville. Combined, OMG print and online publications reach more than 375,000 readers each week.

Pay is competitive and commensurate with experience. Full benefits are included. Interested applicants should send portfolios via email to Executive Editor Michael Eng, meng@orangeobserver.com. Portfolios should include a cover letter, résumé, five of your best writing clips and photography samples. No phone calls, please.
