The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the century-old news organization covering the Jewish world, is hiring full-time reporters to break news and tell stories that matter to North American Jews.
Since 1917, our team of experienced journalists has delivered a daily must-read report to consumers of Jewish news around the world. Our new hires will add to that report by deepening our existing stories, adding new areas of coverage, and innovating the ways we deliver news to our readers.
We have lots of ideas about the stories we’d like to tell, from chronicling how Jewish communities evolve during the pandemic to illuminating how our communal infrastructure allocates resources to exploring Jewish cameos in pop culture. But we also want to shape our coverage based on the talents, aptitudes and interests of our reporting team. So when you apply, let us know a little about the stories that you feel inspired to cover.
These are full-time union positions that report to JTA’s editor in chief or news director. Candidates can be located anywhere in the United States, but being based in a location with a large Jewish population is a plus, as are skills in languages other than English.
What you’ll do:
Report and write a range of stories, from breaking news to enterprise, on topics that you pitch and are assigned.
Work closely with your editors and colleagues to define your beat, refine your pitches and ideas, and improve your work.
Collaborate with the team of journalists at JTA and 70 Faces Media to ensure that our coverage is well rounded, engaging and impactful.
We’re looking for journalists who:
Believe in the power of journalism to connect, challenge and change communities.
Are deeply curious and come out of every conversation with story ideas.
Have a track record of reporting and writing news features that engage broad audiences.
Enjoy learning from editors and colleagues and working as a team.
Have some knowledge about Jewish culture and traditions and care deeply about contemporary Judaism and the people shaping it.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency was founded in 1917 and has been delivering news to Jewish communities around the world. Every day, JTA stories appear on our site at JTA.org and are syndicated to almost 70 papers around the globe.
