The Bangor Daily News is seeking a creative Audience Engagement Editor.
As the leader of the BDN’s off-platform content strategy, you would be responsible for growing and engaging audiences through social media, search and newsletters, and leading conversations around our local content. We have large social media followings, but we need to more effectively manage their growth and engagement to foster trust and inspire more people to support our journalism. We think our accounts can be the most interesting in New England.
The job involves using humor, wit and a deep love of Maine to extend the reach of high impact journalism, and help new audiences discover the BDN.
If you’re the right person for this challenge, this is how we would describe you: You're a self-starter who moves fast and, sometimes, breaks stuff. You have excellent critical thinking skills. Even if you don’t have much journalism experience, you have a deep respect for the essential mission of news outlets. You are obsessed with finding ways to better serve your audience and can't wait to try new things. You're a deft defuser of conflict. You're excited about engaging with others online. You don’t wait for someone to tell you what to do. You collaboratively set strategy, plan tactics, and then you go.
You’d be joining a large, and growing, statewide news organization in its fourth generation of local ownership. We believe that there’s a bright future for local newsrooms that invest in good journalism and put their audiences first. This role is a key part of that plan.
If you think you might be our next great hire, please submit your resume, cover letter and five favorite tweets to firstname.lastname@example.org.
