Come join our team! Our newspaper is an independent daily, family-owned for more than a century. We have a group of bright, up-and-coming journalists who believe in producing important, thought-provoking work. Our reporters have gone on to work at bigger papers like the Chicago Tribune, the Houston Chronicle, the Minneapolis Star Tribune and the Omaha World Herald.

The Manhattan Mercury is based in Manhattan, Kansas, a bustling college town of 56,000. It has great restaurants, a strong arts scene, Division-I sports and plenty of opportunities for recreation.

We're looking for a writer with great news sense and relentless curiousity to help us cover local goverment. These entities spend tens of millions of our tax dollars each year. The successful candidate will be able to translate bureacratic language from meetings and documents into straightforward stories that matter to readers. This person also will write features and cover general assignments as needed.

The Manhattan Mercury prints in-house three days a week, with three more online editions. We offer a benefits package that includes health insurance, dental, vision, profit-sharing program and 401K. To apply, please send a résumé (yes, with cover letter) and three to five writing samples to executive editor Megan Moser at mmoser@themercury.com.
