The Casper Star-Tribune, Wyoming’s statewide newspaper and best daily for four years running, is seeking a talented reporter with strong investigative, storytelling and data journalism skills to join our team.

As our health reporter, you’ll be taking the lead on our COVID-19 coverage, analyzing trends, understanding the effects and putting a human face on the pandemic. Day in and day out you’ll have the chance to cover the biggest health story in decades while working in a newsroom that prioritizes mentorship and growth.

You will also be at the helm of our education coverage, from the K-12 level to the University of Wyoming. This means writing stories about both an education system confronting a budget crisis as well as kids facing a new level of uncertainty every time they step onto a school bus.

We’re looking for someone who is equally comfortable jumping on breaking news and poring over statistics. The ideal candidate is also someone who loves telling a great story. They possess the reporting skills to synthesize vast amounts of data and the writing chops to craft long-form stories that resonate with readers.

The successful candidate will have excellent time-management and organizational skills, including the ability to work under deadline pressure when needed while managing multiple responsibilities. Flexibility is critical. We want someone who is passionate about their beat but can drop what they’re doing to help cover a wildfire. Previous reporting experience is preferred for this beat, but candidates fresh out of college will also be considered. A bachelor’s degree is required.

We take pride in being our state’s top media voice. In January, we were named the best daily newspaper in Wyoming for the sixth time in the last seven years, and we take pride in routinely breaking the state’s biggest stories. Our reporters regularly take home awards at state, regional and national competitions, and we have a reputation for developing journalists, many of whom have gone on to major publications across the country.

Outside the newsroom, Wyoming offers endless outdoor opportunities. We’re at the base of a beautiful mountain range where you can hike in the summer and ski in the winter. Camping and world-class fishing are just a short drive out of town. Casper boasts the big-city offerings of restaurants, shopping, microbreweries and the arts while still giving you plenty of room to breathe. And if you’re missing the big city itself, Denver is down the interstate.

The Casper Star-Tribune is a Lee Enterprises news organization. We offer a strong benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, paid holidays and a generous paid time off policy. We are an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity in our newsroom and encourage candidates from underrepresented communities to apply.
