UCS is seeking a Public Affairs Specialist/Writer to support our customer at NSWC PHD in Port Hueneme, CA. The selected applicant’s primary responsibility will be creating command public affairs materials and writing news stories for command communication. The selected applicant may also be asked to assist in the planning and executing of public information, internal information, special events and tours/visits that support the NSWC PHD Corporate Communications Division.
In this role, the selected applicant will write materials to convey information concerning PHD’s programs and functions to audiences having diverse levels of understanding of the organization’s program and activities; assist in preparing command publication, produce bi-weekly and monthly newsletters, press releases, reports, scripts, agendas, articles, fact sheets, PowerPoint briefs, website content, social media posts, digital signage posts, visitor packages, and other directly related Public Affairs materials. The selected applicant will support the Director and the Public Affairs Officer with internal messages to NSWC PHD’s workforce as well as state of the base events to all departments.
The following are requirements of the position:
A bachelor’s degree and at least six (6) years of relevant experience is required, or an associate’s degree and ten (10) years of relevant experience.
Strong knowledge of Associate Press style, Microsoft Suite, standard office equipment and excellent editing and writing skills.
Writing skills to assist in the planning, writing and editing of feature news and technical articles, internal communications, reports and presentations for release to interested internal or external audiences is required.
A Security Clearance: An active DoD Secret clearance is required to start. Applicant selected may be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
The following are preferred skills of the position:
Previous DoD experience is preferred
Experience or working knowledge of layout and design programs principles
Experience or working knowledge of Photoshop
