POSITION DESCRIPTION: Report and write general news, enterprise and investigative stories for The Post and Courier-North Augusta. The stories should be primarily self-generated and demonstrate a deep understanding of the community the reporter serves. The senior reporter must be deeply involved in the community (both in person and on social media) and attends key North Augusta events and gatherings and builds meaningful relationships with key stakeholders.
Essential job duties: Research stories using personal contacts, databases and/or the Web; finds the most relevant sources for information; develops a list of knowledgeable, diverse sources. Produces story ideas from the assigned beat or from conversations with sources and other members of the community. Writes stories that are clear and concise, using words, sentence construction and organizational format that aid clarity. Complements stories with points of entry and supporting documents. Consistently produces sophisticated stories and story ideas from conversations with co-workers, sources and other members of the community. Writes stories that provide sufficient context and use multiple sources. Coordinates assignments with The Star of North Augusta reporter and helps organize print budget for The Post and Courier-North Augusta.
