El Paso Matters is seeking a managing editor to help lead our newsroom as we grow in 2021. This is a key position for leading a diverse and innovative newsroom as we expand coverage of the Western Hemisphere’s largest binational community.
The managing editor will be the day-to-day leader of a growing newsroom and will work with the CEO in developing strategies to improve reporting and better connect with our audience. We’re looking for:
Someone with at least five years of journalism experience, with a demonstrated track record of producing in-depth and enterprise reporting. Previous editing experience is a plus, but we are willing to consider someone with reporting experience looking to move into a leadership role.
Fluency in Spanish and journalism experience on the U.S.-Mexico border or other predominantly Latino communities is a plus.
A track record of commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in journalism work.
The ability to help early career and experienced journalists produce in-depth and investigative projects.
Strong collaboration skills are crucial.
El Paso Matters is a nonprofit, nonpartisan news site that focuses on in-depth and investigative coverage of the El Paso-Ciudad Juárez border region. We began publishing in February 2020 and in our first year were named one of four finalists for the Online News Association’s General Excellence in Online Journalism Award for micro news sites. We offer competitive salaries and benefits.
El Paso Matters is an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or veteran status.
