Prairie Mountain Media, a subsidiary of MediaNews Group, is seeking a mission-driven journalist who is passionate about mentoring young reporters to lead the Broomfield Enterprise and the Colorado Hometown Weekly. MediaNews Group offers news reporting and third party advertising and marketing opportunities through its multi-platform products which include: web, mobile, tablet, and print. The Broomfield Enterprise / Colorado Hometown Weekly Editor will be responsible for coordinating coverage of east Boulder County and Broomfield County for two weekly or biweekly publications. This editor will work closely with two reporters to decide coverage and to edit and improve their work, and with a design hub to execute production of each publication. This editor will also be tasked with overseeing an annual special section focused on community life in Broomfield. This person also is responsible for managing each publication’s social media sites. This editor may occasionally assist with supervising interns working in the newsroom, which is shared with the Boulder Daily Camera and the Longmont Times-Call. Candidates should have experience working with web content-management systems and be well-versed in social media and search-engine optimization. This editor may assist with other publications produced in the newsroom as assigned.
Degree in journalism, communication or equivalent experience
The preferred candidate has 3 to 5 years of experience as an editor at a daily or weekly newspaper or online news outlet
Relevant experience in news editing, reporting and writing, using social media, creating enterprising content
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong editing, writing, organizational and story structure skills
Understands imperatives of emerging and existing platforms, including web, mobile and print
Beats production deadlines
Contributes to a positive culture of teamwork and collaboration
Experiments with new digital tools and platforms
Additional information
Must be flexible to work weekends and holidays on a rotational basis as well as odd hours if necessary/news requires
Must live in area or be willing to relocate (no relocation assistance offered)
