Now’s your chance to help us build something innovative in local news: This fall, we are launching The Dallas Morning News Education Lab, which will expand our reporting of the most important educational issues in Dallas-Fort Worth and across Texas.

The Education Lab, which will have a reporting team of six journalists, will emphasize solutions-based journalism and also organize events to spark community conversations about education. The Lab is supported by community funding from foundations and philanthropists.

We're looking for an audience engagement producer who brings both strong journalism fundamentals and a passion for engaged journalism.

He or she will engage the community in our education coverage and identify the information needs of our audience by:

In particular, the producer will build engagement around high-priority education issues, including the impact of COVID-19 on schools and learning, school funding from the Texas legislature, equity in education, early childhood development, workforce readiness and school choice.

The education audience engagement position is funded with a two-year commitment. While there are no guarantees beyond the two years, it’s our objective to extend this position for multiple years based on continuous fundraising.

We are in search of a diverse group of candidates. It’s our mission to reach underserved communities, many of which include Spanish-speaking immigrants. Fluency in Spanish is a big advantage.

We're looking for candidates with at least one year of related experience in journalism and audience engagement, and a bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field. Candidates must have an understanding of how best to serve our digital and print audiences, and must be familiar with analytics.
