New Hampshire Public Radio (NHPR) is seeking a curious, innovative and thoughtful reporter to join our newsroom and help shape a new beat covering health with a special focus on equity and justice. As in the rest of the country, COVID-19 has exposed the links in New Hampshire between individual health outcomes and long-standing racial, economic and social inequities. And in a state where the percentage of immigrants and people of color is growing, particularly among young people, we’re looking for a reporter who can tell stories that reflect the increasing diversity of New Hampshire's communities. The health and equity reporter will examine health and health care systems through the lens of race, equity, and demographic change. Other dynamics that will shape this beat include the state’s continuing opioid crisis, hospital consolidation, access to health care, and poverty. You will also join other reporters in the newsroom in covering elections and occasional general assignment duties. The position reports to the News Director and is based in our newsroom in Concord.

Our ideal candidate will have a background in broadcast, print or digital journalism and will be ready to jump on breaking news, but we’re also looking for someone with a passion for creative storytelling and exploring unexpected stories that touch our audience and make an impact. Collaboration is also key to how we work, and we’re looking for someone who loves teaming up with others. NHPR is committed to mentoring our journalists, including candidates from untraditional professional backgrounds, and helping them develop as journalists and leaders. With beaches, lakes, cities and mountains, New Hampshire is both a peaceful and dynamic place to live. NHPR has policies regarding fair compensation and a generous benefits package that includes three weeks paid vacation time and eleven paid holidays, as well as paid sick and parental leave.

New Hampshire Public Radio is an independent and trusted source for news and information, and the state’s largest radio news service. NHPR’s newsroom, digital team, podcasts and original programs consistently earn national recognition for their in-depth reporting and production. NHPR is the winner of the 2015, 2017 and 2018 National Edward R. Murrow Award for overall excellence.
