About Kodiak Island, Kodiak Island is the second-largest island in the United States and boasts one of the biggest commercial fishing ports in the nation. The island population is about 14,000, with 6,500 people living in town. Kodiak is also home to the country’s largest Coast Guard Base. Often called Alaska’s Emerald Isle, Kodiak’s climate is temperate, moist and very green in summer. Outdoor recreation and adventures are limitless: fishing, kayaking, hiking, hunting, mountain climbing, camping — the list goes on. Summer days are long, the salmon is fresh, and the people are friendly. If you have the right professional qualifications, an interest in community news, and think you’d enjoy life on this beautiful island, you could be just the person we are looking for.
