Description:

The University of North Texas is an academic and research community located in Denton, Texas with over 38,000 students and 3000 full time faculty/staff. The goal of UNT Transportation Services is to provide integrated transportation and parking demand strategies for the campus which coordinates pedestrian, bicycle, transit, vehicular circulation and parking.

The Transportation Services Department, which oversees parking and transit at the University of North Texas, is seeking to hire a Department/College Sr Communications Specialist to join our team.  Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Strategizes, writes, edits and schedules content for varying media. This may include:websites, social media, press releases, news coverage, advertising and other.
* Conducts interviews and other research, writes news and profile stories in varying formats.
* Develops and implements communication plans.
* Plans and coordinates content for publications, setting editorial, production and printing schedules; works closely with writers, designers, photographers and printers to ensure that publishing deadlines are met.
* Monitors department social media properties, engaging with audience members where appropriate, answering questions, correcting misinformation, or directing them to relevant resources.
* Develops effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 
* Develops relationships with media sources, conducting regular meetings with key sources and keeping track of media assignments.

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in related field and three years of experience in writing and/or editing publications; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required: 

* Ability to conceptualize, write and edit strategic, accurate and concise content for assigned audiences. 
* Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, conduct multiple tasks and maintain effective working relationships.
* Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
* Ability to visually inspect print and online copy when self-editing or editing the copy of others. 
* Works effectively within a team and effectively works closely with other staff, faculty, and students toward a common goal. 
* Extensive knowledge of spelling, grammar, punctuation and Associated Press and Chicago Manual styles. 
* Knowledge of writing styles and guidelines for various media formats and ability to create, coordinate and edit copy for each format (print, digital/social media, video, broadcast, etc.).
* Understanding of institutional strategy (or ability to quickly assimilate) and ability to integrate the strategy into modes of communication.  
* Knowledge of and ability to research industry best practices to assist the division, college or unit in aligning strategies for UNT publications (print and digital) with University strategy and guidelines.

The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* First hand knowledge and skills in the Adobe Creative Suite, such as InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro and Illustrator.
* First hand experience taking photos/filming video using a 35mm camera and/or video camera.
* Experience with internal communications and/or customer communications, such as focus groups
