The Glenwood Springs Post Independent, a daily newspaper in the Roaring Fork Valley, seeks a general assignment reporter who can help us deliver on our goal of being nothing short of great. Glenwood Springs — known as the Land of Water because of its world class hot springs, and the confluence of rivers — is 40 miles from Aspen and 50 miles from Vail. We are at the heart of year-round, world-class outdoor recreation, from whitewater rafting, bicycling and hiking to Nordic and alpine skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Because of our elevation, we have fantastic summers and a milder winters than our ski-town neighbors. Because of our location, we are a short drive from world-class winter activities. 

We're looking for someone with an adventurous spirit who has a love for mountain towns. We need an ambitious storyteller who can turn a phrase, shoot an image, edit a video and send a tweet — all on deadline.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Generate 8-10 stories per week.

• Take photos and video as well as create and share content on social media.

• Demonstrate effective use of social media tools to source stories and drive traffic to our digital and print products.

• Work well with community leaders/figures as well as other newsroom staff.

• Be flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment.

• Ensure accuracy, fairness and correct spelling in all reporting duties.

• Follow direction and vision of the Post Independent editor.

• Make assigned deadlines without exception.

• Fill in for reporting vacancies as needed.

• Be ethical within the guidelines set by the editor.

• Be a team player and help where needed.



• Journalism degree - preferred.

• Two years reporting experience - preferred.

• Experience with content management systems - preferred.

• Digital photography experience - preferred.

• Knowledge of AP style - required.

• Availability to work some nights and weekends - required.

• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time - required.

• Must have a current driver’s license or the ability to get one - required.
