The Times in Gainesville, Ga., is seeking a talented journalist with an eye for design. The universal desk at The Times is responsible for the page design of a five-day-a-week newspaper, a weekly newspaper, a biweekly trade magazine and special projects.

Candidates should be team players and multi-taskers who can juggle a dynamic list of duties while meeting tight deadlines. The ideal candidate will have creative ideas that make the content pop as well as the know-how to produce reader-friendly features such as charts and locator maps.

Experience in InDesign (CS 5.5) and Photoshop is required. Preference will be given to those who also have experience with Illustrator. Knowledge of video or audio editing would be a plus. Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field. Newspaper experience is preferred, but recent college graduates will be considered with appropriate internship or school paper experience. We do some pretty great journalism and would expect you to be a part of that.

A few other things you might want to know:

  • There is a “food desk.” Sometimes there are doughnuts on the food desk.
  • The job is full time and requires that you be in the office. The hours are roughly 3 p.m. to midnight.
  • The police scanner is always on in the background. Sometimes that brings heavy-hitting news, other times amusement.
  • We offer paid vacation, benefits and 401(k) savings.

If you think you've got something to contribute to our team, send a cover letter, resume and design samples in PDF format to hr@gainesvilletimes.com.
