The Commercial Dispatch is seeking a bright, self-motivated reporter to cover a wide range of local and university news at our Starkville, Mississippi bureau. Home to Mississippi State University, Starkville isn't just a college town. It has a family friendly atmosphere while offering a multitude of local restaurants, bars and shopping options. It's also conveniently located two hours from Jackson, Memphis and Birmingham.

The ideal candidate has a passion for local newsgathering and is comfortable immersing him/herself in this community. Though you will have daily contact with editorial staff in our Columbus office (25 minutes away) and understand the value of working with a team, you will be largely responsible for managing and curating your own stories. Self-motivation is essential. Time management, high productivity, good news judgment and unflagging persistence are essential attributes. We are looking for someone with at least two years of newspaper experience. Photography skills are a plus.

The Dispatch, a 14,000-circulation afternoon daily, won the 2015 Daniel E. Phillips Freedom of Information Award for our investigative journalism work. We like tackling important stories and are building on our successes. If this sounds like a good fit for you, e-mail cover letter, resume and writing samples to Peter Imes at pimes@cdispatch.com.
