We are looking for freelance beat reporters to cover the town government or school board of education meetings in individual towns in Central New Jersey.

Candidates will work independently, must have covered local government or school board of education meetings in the past, and be able to pitch and write original stories based on meetings. We’re looking for reporters who can gather information from meetings, pick out stories that would be of relevance to local residents, cultivate sources, interact with local officials and expand on relevant information.

Communication is also a must for candidates, and the reporter will be required to check in with the editor in the day immediately following meetings, and meet deadlines regarding submission of articles.

Submit your resume and three examples of news articles or previous meeting coverage to, with “Freelance Reporting” in the subject line. We are looking for people to start by September 1.
