Who We’re Looking For:
Photojournalists with a talent for telling stories and capturing moments in photos and video on a daily deadline. Previous internships/daily experience preferred, but not required. We look for team players who take direction from editors and respond to constructive criticism, working to improve their photo and video during their time with us. Experience shooting sports is a plus. Hard working, enthusiastic and passionate about journalism is a must.
What Will You Do for Us?
You'll work alongside our staff photographers to shoot photo and video daily for The Victoria Advocate in addition to our magazines, tabs and other publications. The photo staff produces photo stories weekly in our Sunday edition, where interns will have regular opportunities to have their photo packages published. Interns will also be expected to complete at least one in depth photo/ video project during their internship.
What We Will Do For You:
Our pledge is to prepare you to work for a daily publication as a multimedia journalist.
You will have regular one-on-ones with the Photo & Video Editor to give you feedback on your work.
You will build your portfolio with daily and in depth photo & video pieces.
Based on the quality of your work, you will be eligible for consideration of full-time opportunities in the newsroom, if they become available. (And we mean it. Two of our current full-time staff members started as multimedia interns). We also offer professional letters of recommendation.
What You Will Get From Us:
Free use of the Advocate’s furnished, two-bedroom company apartment (to be shared with another intern).
A weekly stipend of $115.
Gas mileage reimbursement on assignments at a company rate based on current prices.
Use of company multimedia equipment. (Canon camera equipment, Mac stations for video editing).
Free weekday lunches in the Advocate cafeteria. (Our hamburgers are the stuff of local legend but sandwiches, salads and other delicious food is always available.)
The multimedia internship begins on or before June 1st, 2013 and ends on or before August 31st, 2013. You will report directly to the Photo/Video Editor. The position is based at The Victoria Advocate office in Victoria, Texas.
