City News Service Inc., the nation's largest regional wire service (www.SoCalNews.com), has an immediate full-time opening for a breaking news reporter, based at Los Angeles Police Department headquarters.
CNS subscribers include major media outlets in Southern California, including TV stations, national and international networks, major newspapers, radio stations and websites. All of them rely on CNS to alert them to breaking news around the clock. You'll be reporting and writing from the heart of one of the world's largest media markets, providing fast-moving coverage of breaking news that often reverberates across the nation.
Candidates should have a bachelor's degree, at least one year of professional reporting experience and already live in the Southern California area. Applicants should also:
-- be comfortable amid fast-breaking news situations and deadlines;
-- have the ability to write quickly, accurately, and turn in clean copy;
-- have a firm grasp of grammar and AP style;
-- be proficient in using the web and social media to report stories;
-- have strong news judgment; and
-- the ability to cultivate sources and to juggle multiple stories.
