City News Service Inc., the nation's largest regional wire service (www.SoCalNews.com), has an immediate full-time opening for a breaking news reporter, based at our West Los Angeles headquarters. Are you an aggressive reporter with a strong drive to be first on breaking stories, and game to work a pivotal overnight shift? If so, we want to hear from you!
CNS subscribers include major media outlets in Southern California, including TV stations, national and international networks, major newspapers, radio stations and digital outlets. All of them rely on CNS to alert them to breaking news around the clock. You'll be reporting and writing from the heart of one of the world's largest media markets, providing fast-moving coverage of breaking news that often reverberates across the nation and beyond.
Candidates should already live in and be familiar with the Southern California area and have at least one year of professional reporting experience. This role focuses on public safety and spot news, but applicants should be ready to cover a variety of topics. The successful candidate will:
-- have strong news judgment;
-- be comfortable amid fast-breaking news situations and tight deadlines;
-- have the ability to write quickly, accurately, and turn in clean and concise copy;
-- have a firm grasp of grammar and AP style;
-- be proficient in navigating digital platforms and using the web and social media as reporting tools;
-- have the ability to cultivate sources and juggle multiple tasks; and
-- maintain consistent communication with, and welcome direction from, supervising editors and value newsroom teamwork and collaboration.
The pay range for this position is $44,575 to $49,750, based on various factors including, but not limited to, education and work experience. We offer eligible employees a variety of benefits, including medical, dental, paid time off and select paid holidays.
