Description:

Good reporters cover stories. Great reporters uncover them.

TribLive, the largest newsroom in Western Pennsylvania, is looking for a seasoned, versatile reporter to join our growing team of journalists.

We want an experienced journalist who knows how to uncover compelling stories and has the curiosity, sound judgment and competitive drive to produce distinctive, high-impact journalism.

This is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone with proven reporting chops — a journalist who can hit the ground running, tackle tough assignments and develop the sources and expertise to take ownership of a key coverage area.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable covering breaking news, explaining complex issues and producing ambitious enterprise and accountability journalism.

You'll be based in our North Shore newsroom alongside an experienced, collaborative team. TribLive.com is investing in ambitious local journalism that informs, engages and holds institutions accountable.

Pittsburgh offers the advantages of a major metropolitan area — passionate readers, strong institutions and an abundance of news — with a cost of living that makes it an attractive place to build a career.

TribLive is the most visited news website in Western Pennsylvania, with more than 3 million readers across all digital platforms every month. The Tribune-Review has received state and national recognition including Best Overall Newspaper by the Pennsylvania chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Our platforms include daily and weekly newspapers, magazines and TribLive.com.

What you'll do

  • Report and write compelling stories across a variety of topics, from breaking news and daily coverage to ambitious enterprise and investigative projects.
  • Develop expertise in a key coverage area, building the sources and knowledge needed to produce distinctive, authoritative reporting.
  • Cultivate sources, uncover exclusive stories and pursue reporting that goes beyond official statements and scheduled events.
  • Identify emerging issues, recognize trends and consistently generate original story ideas.
  • Use public records, data and digital reporting tools to strengthen our journalism.
  • Collaborate with editors, photographers and other journalists to produce engaging storytelling across platforms.

What we're looking for

  • At least seven years of professional reporting experience, preferably in a daily newsroom, with a demonstrated ability to cover multiple beats.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing versatility, enterprise reporting and the ability to make complex subjects accessible and compelling.
  • Excellent news judgment, strong writing skills and the ability to deliver accurate, engaging stories on deadline.
  • A proven ability to cultivate sources, ask tough questions and work independently.
  • Fluency in AP style, journalistic ethics and digital storytelling.
  • A competitive spirit, intellectual curiosity and a collaborative approach to journalism.
