Join McClatchy’s Content Innovation Lab as specialist for Camp & Country — a new digital destination for outdoor enthusiasts, weekend adventurers and anyone looking to spend more time in nature.

At McClatchy, we’re blending our tradition of trusted journalism with a digital-first, data-driven approach. As a Camp & Country specialist, you’ll write engaging, high-quality content that covers everything from trail conditions and seasonal guides to backcountry tips, gear reviews and stories that shape the outdoor scene. You’ll use audience insights and AI-enabled tools to surface trends and produce national content that resonates with outdoor enthusiasts across the Pacific Northwest, Heartland, California, Gulf Coast and beyond.

What you’ll do:

• Develop and produce compelling stories, guides and features that empower readers to explore, adventure and connect with the outdoors.
• Collaborate with a dynamic team to experiment with new formats and distribution strategies, maximizing reach and engagement.
• Use audience analytics and emerging technologies to inform your storytelling and connect with passionate outdoor communities.
• Embrace a fast-paced, collaborative environment where curiosity, adaptability and results are celebrated.
• Help shape Camp & Country into a trusted daily destination for readers seeking inspiration, local intel and authentic outdoor experiences.

Who you are:

• A creative storyteller with a passion for outdoor recreation, adventure and lifestyle and the demonstrated knowledge to pitch, research, report, write, edit and fact-check content.
• Experienced in digital content creation at a high volume, with strong writing, editing and organizational skills.
• Comfortable using data and AI-powered tools to guide your work and amplify your impact.
• Collaborative, curious, and excited to experiment with new ways to engage audiences.

What you’ll bring:

• The position requires a combination of subject matter expertise and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree, including education, experience, skills and knowledge necessary to perform the job.
• 3+ years of professional experience in content creation, writing or journalism.
• Strong writing, editing and organizational skills with the ability to produce high-quality content on deadline.
• Inquisitive mindset with a constant flow of ideas and creative approaches to content creation.
• Adaptability and flexibility to experiment relentlessly and pivot quickly based on results.
• Collaborative spirit with a proven track record of working effectively in team environments.

What we'll bring:

• The anticipated pay range for this position is between $60,000-90,000 a year. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on the job-related knowledge, department equity, skills, experience and relevant education.
