Description:
The Kelley School of Business at Indiana University
Bloomington (IUB) invites applications for full-time, open-rank Lecturer
positions in Communication Skills beginning Fall 2027. These are 10-month,
non-tenure-track appointments with an 18-credit-hour annual teaching
assignment.
Communication Skills faculty teach core undergraduate
courses in business writing and business presentations. The curriculum
emphasizes audience, purpose, rhetorical situation, and the effective use of
written and oral genres in professional contexts. Faculty typically have a
primary assignment in either Business Writing or Business Presentations, with
the possibility of teaching both.
Communication Skills Courses
Business Presentations (3 credits)
Business Presentations introduces students to oral
communication in professional contexts through theory-based skill development.
Students learn to analyze audiences, construct and deliver persuasive messages,
develop oral arguments, and work effectively in teams. The course includes a
team persuasive presentation addressing a real problem for a corporate client.
Business Writing (3 credits)
Business Writing develops students' ability to produce
strategic, ethical, audience-centered professional documents individually and
in teams. Students analyze communication situations, make rhetorical choices
across business genres, and develop recommendations for authentic professional
problems. The course includes a team-based report for a corporate client.
The Faculty Role
Lecturers have both teaching and service obligations
including curriculum development, pedagogical development and service to the
Communication, Professional, and Computer Skills (CPCS) academic area, the
Kelley School, Indiana University, and the broader community. Annual
professional development funding is available for activities including
conference travel, purchasing books, and research.
These positions are based at the IUB campus in Bloomington,
Indiana. Faculty members are expected to work on campus to fully engage with
the area, school, campus, and community.
