English Desk Editor, Bangkok/Hong Kong/Los Angeles/Washington

ROLE 

Global news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP) is hiring experienced journalists for its English-language news desks in Asia and North America, offering an opportunity for dynamic journalists to pursue a career as a foreign correspondent within our international network.

Posts are open on our desks in Bangkok, Hong Kong, Los Angeles and Washington, where editors play a pivotal role in ensuring that breaking news and in-depth international stories meet the agency’s high standards for accurate, fast, and vivid coverage of world events.

Successful candidates will be capable of editing copy with a sharp eye for accuracy, strong news judgement and an ability to communicate easily with journalists in the field. It is important to have a strong knowledge of regional and global affairs because each desk handles stories from other regions in our “follow-the-sun” model of continuous news coverage.

Desk jobs can lead to reporting assignments and longer-term correspondent postings anywhere in the world, working with an agency that prizes original, on-the-ground reporting to inform an audience of millions. The North America desks offer frequent reporting opportunities in addition to core editing duties.

REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum three years of editorial experience, preferably including both reporting and editing
• Adept at producing accurate, fast, clear copy in cooperation with reporters
• Knowledge of other languages is an advantage, as is experience in areas such as sport and finance
• Each desk operates daily from 7am to midnight. Candidates must be willing to work any shift and regularly on weekends
