Hayden Capital is seeking an experienced, aggressive, resourceful freelance investigative reporter to conduct in-depth research and deeper reporting on the US Technology industry.  We have multiple projects per year, and are looking for an individual who can build sources quickly.  At Hayden, we look for intellectually curious people who see the world as a giant puzzle and want to understand how it works.

The initial project will focus on answering “Is Applovin successfully scaling out of mobile gaming into ecommerce advertising”?  The report is for Hayden's internal use, with potential publication later.  If we publish, credit will be given.

Responsibilities

·       Identify and interview customers, ad agency partners, former employees, industry experts, etc.  We are looking for deep sourcing, with at least a dozen sources.

·       Research public records, filings, and other public sources.

·       Deliver a written report of findings, with all sources and records documented.

Project details

·       Paid, project-based, remote.  The firm is based in Los Angeles, so in-office is possible for local candidates too.  Start by October 19, draft due November 13, final report due November 20.

·       Compensation: Market Competitive.  To be discussed.

What we're looking for

·       A track record of investigative or deeply reported work, ideally in business journalism.

·       Strong interviewing and public-records skills, and comfort sourcing cold.

·       Experience covering the US technology sector and business reporting.  Experience covering the mobile gaming / adtech industry is a strong plus.

We will not ask you to obtain confidential or nonpublic information, and you must be transparent about who you are working for. We'll share full guidelines before the project begins. As we are an investment firm, not a news outlet, please make sure this work fits any obligations you have to other publications.
