The Rome News-Tribune, a five-day print and 24/7 online publication serving the city of Rome and Floyd County in northwest Georgia, is looking for an eager and energetic reporter to serve as our Breaking News/ GA reporter.

 This position will be focused on real-time reporting - on everything that breaks. While our newsroom is beat-centric, this reporter will have full reign and first shot at all breaking news, regardless of beat. As such, it requires a reporter who understands both the opportunities and the demands of being first, always.

Our expectation is for this reporter to file multiple stories a day as news breaks, meaning they have a "right now" deadline on all stories. If you are accustomed to filing all your copy at the end of the day, this isn't the job for you. This reporter will be nimble, open to anything and somewhat knowledgeable about everything. For example, if big education news breaks, this reporter will be expected to be making calls on it while others are still learning about it. The expectation is they will then write the first version of the story for the web and social media right away. Sometimes the education reporter will take on and fill out the story and sometimes it will be yours to chase and expand on yourself. That's why we need someone prepared for wherever the day may lead, from sitting with the grieving family of someone who was killed to standing at the fire line with officials when there's a 2,000 acre brush fire.
