Job Description:

The Lebanon Reporter is seeking a General Assignment Reporter, a talented writer/storyteller who will deliver compelling community focused news that makes our subscribers want to read it.

In this role, you will cover a diverse and fast-paced beat spanning local government, community growth and infrastructure, local events, public safety, and enterprise features. Boone County is experiencing a massive wave of transformation, making this an ideal position for a reporter who loves breaking news, community engagement and uncovering the stories behind a booming local economy.

The ideal candidate possesses a sharp news judgment and a firm grasp of AP style. You will write daily content for our print and online editions while driving digital engagement through our website and social media channels.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cover municipal meetings (city council, county government, zoning boards) and local community affairs.
  • Write engaging, accurate, and fair daily news stories, features, and enterprise pieces under tight deadlines and shoot your own photos.
  • Cultivate local sources within government, education, business sectors, and community organizations.
  • Write clean, concise copy adhering strictly to Associated Press (AP) style.
  • Provide multimedia support, including photographs, as needed.
  • Adapt to the fast-paced reporting needs of a rapidly growing county.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
  • Excellent writing, reporting, and interviewing skills with a sharp eye for detail.
  • Familiarity with AP style guidelines.
  • A strong commitment to community journalism and objective, ethical reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local assignments.
