The Maine Trust for Local News seeks enterprising and energetic journalists to join its community reporting staff. Community reporters help cover general interest news in geographic beats serving Midcoast, Central and Western regions of Maine.

Journalism produced from this coverage is published in weekly digital newsletters, ePapers and websites, as well as in the Portland Press Herald, Sun Journal, Kennebec Journal/Morning Sentinel and other Maine Trust publications. Our community reporters are responsible for curating a weekly email newsletter, which is focused on interesting people, places and happenings in the region, and for posting daily stories. These reporters cover the biggest stories in assigned regions and focus on localizing subjects that readers care about most while also writing topic-based guides to help people navigate daily life. This is a lively beat with lots of coverage potential on housing and development, education, the environment and key industries. Each reporter aims to become essential to each community we cover, being on the ground in their region and a go-to resource for all things local. Community reporters must have excellent reporting and writing skills; a sense of urgency to beat the competition on developing news; comfort with a digital-first environment; a proven ability to file stories on deadline; and experience rounding out stories with depth and context.
