Are community festivals, meeting new people and telling their stories, talking about the successes of folks who rarely get the recognition they deserve? 

If you answered, "Yes," to any or all of these questions, we are talking the same language.

The Hobbs News-Sun is seeking a reporter. The ideal candidate can walk into a mundane government meeting and come away with a story or two plus ideas for three more. Or you get excited about telling the big news in one of the nation's premier energy-producing regions but can get equally fired up writing about a play being produced by the local community theater group.

This is a full-time, in-person position with a five-day daily newspaper covering five communities in Lea County in Southeast New Mexico. We are a locally-owned publication publishing every day except Monday and Saturday plus our on-line edition at hobbsnews.com. 

Someone with experience at a daily newspaper, or someone who's worked at weekly newspapers and relishes the idea of moving up to daily reporting, would fit in well in our small but passionate newsroom. Photography experience is desired, as are pagination/design skills, or a desire to learn, using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, In-Design, etc.), and familiarity with content management systems and social media. Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
