Description:
The Galveston County Daily News seeks an up-and-coming photojournalist to join its talented photography staff.
The Daily News covers a growing county of more than 300,000 people on the Texas Gulf Coast less than an hour’s drive from Houston and based in one of the state’s most popular beach towns.
Preferred candidates will have some experience producing compelling images in support of news, enterprise, feature and sports reporting.
The job also offers an unusual opportunity to get artistic in service of Coast Monthly, a wildly popular glossy lifestyle magazine.
This job requires a good eye for composition, the ability to juggle numerous and different assignments, to move and edit quickly and to contribute meaningfully to planning discussions about how to illustrate various stories.
Experience with studio-quality lighting is a plus, as is video experience, especially video editing, although the job mostly entails still photography in the field and the studio.
The editors care about both the quality of the newspaper and the quality of the work experience. When our staffers move on, they tend to move up, rather than out of journalism.
The Daily News offers solid pay and benefits including paid vacation, sick leave, health insurance and a 401k with a generous company match.
Send a resume and some well-chosen digital images or links to a portfolio of work to Editor Michael A. Smith — michael.smith@galvnews.com. Please put the words “Application for photo job” in the subject line.
