Role: Freelance Correspondent — International Affairs

Location: Remote, anywhere in the United States; Washington, D.C.–area journalists preferred

About the Role

Liberty Times, a Taiwan-based news organization with a strong domestic focus and global outlook, is expanding its U.S. coverage and looking for experienced freelance journalists and contributors based in the United States.

We are particularly interested in writers with a strong command of international affairs, U.S. foreign policy, and Indo-Pacific security. Contributors will cover U.S.–Taiwan relations, cross-Strait developments, regional defense and diplomacy, and the wider strategic competition shaping the Indo-Pacific.

We are looking for clear, well-sourced journalism that combines policy expertise with original reporting, on-the-ground insight, and strong news judgment.

What You’ll Cover

Contributors may be commissioned to:

1.Track and report on U.S. foreign policy, Indo-Pacific security, U.S.–Taiwan relations, Chinese foreign and military policy, and regional defense developments.

2.Produce reported analysis, policy explainers, special reports, and informed commentary.

3.Use official documents, think-tank research, academic sources, and open-source data while maintaining rigorous verification and sourcing standards.

4.Deliver clear, accurate copy that meets the assigned brief, word count, and deadline.

Priority Coverage Areas

We are especially interested in journalists who can cover:

1.Taiwan Strait security, cross-Strait relations, and U.S. policy toward Taiwan.

2.Chinese foreign and military policy, maritime disputes, and regional security.

3.U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy, allied security cooperation, military deployments, and defense technology.

4.Fast-turn analysis and backgrounders on major international developments.

Rates and Contributor Arrangements

Rates generally range from US$150 to US$400 per commissioned piece. Final payment will reflect the length of the article, the extent of original reporting and research required, the complexity of the assignment, and the deadline.
