The Warrensburg Star-Journal is seeking a qualified, driven candidate to join our newsroom as a full-time News Reporter.

We are an award-winning, twice-weekly newspaper with an 1,100-circulation and a proud 160-year history of providing quality journalism to Warrensburg and Johnson County.

What You Will Do

  • Cover local news: Lead coverage on several critical hard news beats.
  • Tell community stories: Write engaging features and cover vital community events.
  • Capture multimedia: Take photos and produce digital content to accompany your stories.
  • Support special sections: Write and curate content for focused, themed publications.
  • Boost social media: Assist with expanding our online presence and digital audience engagement.

What We Look For

  • Education & Experience: A degree in journalism, communication, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience at a news publication.
  • Digital Skills: A strong multimedia background; experience with Adobe Photoshop and Microsoft Office is a plus.
  • Deadline-Driven: Ability to thrive under pressure and consistently hit strict nightly deadlines.
  • Flexibility: A adaptable schedule to cover evening meetings or breaking community events.
  • Collaborative Spirit: A professional demeanor to build trust with local sources and work seamlessly with our newsroom team.
  • Dual-Platform Mindset: Ability to produce high-quality content optimized for both print and digital platforms.
