Description:
Would you like to have a fast-paced role as part of a busy newsroom?
News clerks serve as the newspaper’s first contact with
people wanting to get their story in print. We’re looking for candidates who
are dependable, motivated and have excellent communication skills.
Our news clerks are given a wide array of responsibilities,
including answering the phone, gathering important documents, routing callers
and visitors to the right editor or reporter, preparing news releases and
compiling obituaries for publication.
Candidates must be good typists with a minimum speed of 30
words per minute and familiar with work-processing programs. Experience with
Apple computers and multiline phone systems is a plus. This is a part-time
position (about 20 hours per week). The schedule will include at least one
weekend day and occasional evening shifts.
Employees working at least 20 hours per week are eligible
for voluntary benefits. Those who are age 21 or older and meet the 20-hour
threshold are also eligible to participate in the 401K plan.
Candidate must pass drug screening.
We are an equal opportunity organization and do not
discriminate on the basis of race, national origin, gender, gender identity,
sexual orientation, protected veteran status, disability, age, or any other
legally protected status.
