Description:

Piedmont Media is looking for a new reporter

Piedmont Media, a nonprofit news organization that publishes both the Fauquier Times and Prince William Times, is seeking a reporter.

This role presents an opportunity to do important daily, enterprise and investigative reporting on issues of local, regional and national significance on a range of issues in one of the most diverse and dynamic regions in the nation.
Located less than an hour from Washington, D.C., Piedmont Media operates two print and digital news sites serving Fauquier and Prince William counties. The organization has consistently produced award-winning journalism and is financially stable with strong philanthropic support. Both the Fauquier Times and the Prince William Times were named the top weekly newspapers in Virginia in their size categories by the Virginia Press Association in both 2025 and 2026.
This role will focus on general assignment stories and county government. The reporter will also write breaking news stories and help grow our coverage of diverse communities. Foreign language skills are highly desired, especially Spanish.
The ideal candidate:

·      Is a motivated self-starter who is curious about people, community-minded and focused on strong storytelling.

·      Has one to three years of experience as a reporter, strong news judgment, demonstrated writing skills and a bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related major. Journalists with strong college-level experience, such as internships or lead reporting and editing roles on student-run college newspapers, are also considered strong candidates.

·      Holds a deep belief that good journalism makes a difference, is a good teammate and is a supportive colleague who values others.

·      Is willing to live in or close to Fauquier or Prince William counties. The reporter is expected to attend one or more meetings or events a week in one of our counties, but working and writing from home is otherwise OK.

·      Has a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

About the role:
Salary. This is a full-time position and pay will depend on experience. The target salary range for this role is $50,000 to $60,000 per year.
Benefits. Piedmont Media offers medical and dental insurance, paid time off including 13 paid holidays, and a 401K plan with a 3% company match.
