JOB SUMMARY:

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette is seeking a sharp, fast-moving digital news producer to drive traffic and audience engagement across all of our online platforms. 

This is a hands-on role at the center of our real-time news operation — publishing breaking news quickly and accurately, writing compelling headlines, curating must-read newsletters and shaping how our journalism appears across platforms.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communicate and collaborate with the web team to avoid duplication of efforts and to accomplish the team’s short- and long-term goals. Also to complete daily tasks as well as longer-term projects. 

Help lead audience engagement efforts across digital platforms to grow readership and respond quickly to changes in audience interests, news cycles and platform trends.

Edit articles, write engaging headlines and post them to the website. 

Watch the Associated Press wire and local press releases, selecting and posting content suitable for our audience.

Edit and send daily and weekly newsletters, curating content for our newsletter subscribers.

Work in conjunction with reporters and editors on staff to avoid duplication of efforts, workflow pain points and to develop longer-term projects.

Add videos and graphic elements in stories on ArkansasOnline.com and in the Democrat-Gazette replica edition. 

Manage Arkansas Online’s existing and future social media feeds, with current emphasis on Facebook and Instagram, though familiarity with LinkedIn and any other social media platforms is a plus.

Monitor traffic analytics and test ideas about coverage.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

• Is comfortable with technology

• Is focused on the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette’s audience

• Is familiar with Associated Press style and media law

• Is familiar with HTML

• Has strong English-language skills, including grammar and spelling

• Is able to operate in a fast-paced environment under deadline

The producer role will require evening and weekend shifts and will be cross-trained to cover other shifts on the online team.

This job is based in Little Rock, the state capital and home to a thriving downtown and entertainment district.

A degree in journalism or a related field is desired with at least one (1) year of professional experience in professional newsrooms. Two (2) years experience, preferably at a daily newspaper or television station, may be substituted in lieu of a college degree.

This is a safety-sensitive position. A candidate must pass a drug screening, have a driving record that meets requirements set in the “Personal Vehicle Used for Company Business” policy and must be fully vaccinated by date of hire.
