Description:

The Lawrence (Kan.) Journal-World has an immediate opening for a full-time reporter who will do a mix of beat reporting and general assignment reporting.

The Lawrence Journal-World is a six-day per week newspaper that operates the region’s most comprehensive news website, LJWorld.com. The Lawrence metro area — home to approximately 125,000 people about 30 minutes outside of Kansas City — has been a consistently growing region for decades.

We are seeking candidates who are curious, understand the importance of accuracy and timeliness, have demonstrated writing skills, are committed to ethical journalism and appreciate the importance of local news in a community.

We are open to candidates of varying experience levels. Recent journalism graduates who have a strong portfolio of professional work may apply. The position’s compensation range is $35,000 to $40,000, depending on experience.

At the Journal-World, you will join a newsroom of approximately 10 full-time, dedicated journalists, including a team of locally based copy editors and designers who produce award-winning print and digital products.

Lawrence is a vibrant, young community. We are home to the University of Kansas, have an attractive downtown entertainment district, many outdoor recreational opportunities, and are a short drive from many of Kansas City’s most popular destinations.

Applicants should send a letter of interest, a resumé and at least three writing samples to Editor Chad Lawhorn at clawhorn@ljworld.com. Please include the phrase “Reporter Application” in the subject line of your email. Application review will begin immediately.

When applying, mention you saw this opening listed at JournalismJobs.com.
