Our family-owned newspaper company is seeking a General Assignment Reporter to join our newsroom in Le Mars, Iowa. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by covering the people, events and issues that matter most to our readers.
As a General Assignment Reporter, you'll cover a variety of beats, including:
- Local government meetings
- Schools and education
- Community events
- Business and economic development
- Public safety
- Feature stories highlighting the people who make our community unique
You'll interview sources, write accurate and engaging stories on deadline, develop story ideas, take photographs and build relationships throughout the community.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong writing, interviewing and communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Curiosity, initiative and sound news judgment
- The ability to work independently while collaborating with the newsroom team
- Basic photography and social media skills are a plus
- A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
A degree in journalism, communications or a related field is preferred, but equivalent experience and a passion for community journalism will also be considered.
