Description:

About the Bulwark

The Bulwark isn’t just a business, it’s a mission. We're a fast-growing media company founded to provide analysis and reporting in defense of liberal democracy. Our podcasts, newsletters, and videos cut through the noise to deliver sharp, independent analysis.

Inside The Bulwark, we live by a few simple rules: candor over spin, collaboration over ego, and a commitment to making each other better. We’re a nimble, fast-moving team that takes our work seriously—but not ourselves.

We’re looking for an Associate Producer to join our team.

About the Role

This role supports day-to-day production and distribution operations across our various podcast programs. Working closely with various Producers, you'll help ensure episodes and content are prepared, quality-checked, and reach their audience in the best possible form, while building the skills and editorial judgment to take on greater ownership over time.

What You’ll Do

  • Support scheduling, project management, and day-to-day workflow coordination across shows, helping keep production timelines on track and stakeholders informed and aligned.

  • Source and pull visual elements for episodes (images, B-roll), ensuring appropriate usage and attribution.

  • Assist with quality control (QC) of episodes and support the workflow for publishing across our platforms.

  • Support post-production fact-checking, in partnership with other producers.

  • Prepare ad assets for hosts and video editors, supporting quality control for ad reads and ad placement in episodes.

  • Create and manage short-form clips in partnership with the video and social teams, helping identify strong moments, supporting QC, and assisting with preparation for distribution and rollout.

  • Write show copy, titles, and thumbnail text; support thumbnail production as needed.

  • Help monitor distribution across platforms, flagging issues to ensure content is published correctly and on schedule.

  • Monitor livestreams during broadcasts, flagging notable moments and potential breaking news opportunities to Producers and hosts.

  • Support show promotion strategies in partnership with editorial, programming, and social teams to grow audience reach and engagement.

What You Bring

  • 1-3 years of experience in digital media production, with exposure to operational and distribution workflows.

  • Understanding of video, social, and audio platforms and what drives engagement.

  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to manage complex workflows and competing priorities.

  • Familiarity with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, and Illustrator, along with experience or interest in YouTube optimization best practices, including thumbnail production.

  • Comfort working in a fast-paced production environment with tight timelines and frequent deadlines.

  • Sound judgement, with eagerness to grow into more editorial responsibility

  • A deep interest in politics, current events, and media, and a passion for The Bulwark's mission and a strong understanding of the organization’s work across platforms.

  • Clear, proactive communication skills and a team-first attitude.

What We Offer

We want people at The Bulwark to thrive. We provide:

  • Full employer-sponsored health plans

  • 401(k) plan with employer match

  • Generous vacation and paid time off

  • Commuter benefits and Employee Assistance Program

This role is based in Washington, DC, where our team works together in person five days a week. We’re mission-driven, collaborative, and direct—and we value people who bring ideas and energy to the table.
