Medical Content Reviewer (Freelance)


The Epoch Times is seeking a freelance Medical Content Reviewer to ensure the accuracy, credibility, and clarity of our health journalism. In this role, you will review articles, studies, illustrations, and other materials to verify medical accuracy.


The primary content requiring medical review includes our science-heavy reporting and weekly Essential Guides—comprehensive guides on diseases, foods, and other health topics.


***This is a freelance, remote position requiring approximately 10 hours per week.


Pay Rate: $30 to $47 per hour

Responsibilities:

  • Fact-check all sources and claims to ensure that content in body text, illustrations, and infographics accurately reflects primary sources, and that cited sources are credible and high-quality.
  • For essential guides specifically, ensure the end guide is based on the best available sources and covers essential information, including the latest and emerging findings, major mechanisms, and both conventional and integrative approaches.
  • Write clear, actionable editing notes and suggest higher-quality or more up-to-date sources when necessary.
  • Ensure information is organized in a clear hierarchy.
  • Collaborate with editors, writers, and designers to ensure the final product is appealing and accessible for a broad audience.
  • Meet review deadlines without compromising quality.


Qualifications:

  • Medical degree (MD, DO, MBBS, or equivalent).
  • 5–10 years of clinical practice experience, preferably as a generalist (e.g., Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or similar).
  • 3–5 years of experience critically evaluating medical or scientific research papers.
  • Strong understanding of evidence-based medicine and the ability to interpret clinical studies accurately.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate high-quality sources from both conventional and integrative medicine using an objective, evidence-based approach.
  • Excellent written communication skills and the ability to provide constructive editorial feedback.
  • Collaborative, detail-oriented, and able to maintain high standards without being overly rigid.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a medical editor, medical reviewer, or medical writer.
  • Background or familiarity with integrative medicine.
  • Experience reviewing consumer health or medical journalism.
