Description:
Social Media Producer/Editor
Status Coup News is the leading independent news outlet that reports ON-THE-GROUND across America, covering what the corporate media COVERS UP. As we grow, we’re looking for a social media video producer/editor with great news and content instincts and judgment, passion for covering and elevating the stories often ignored by mainstream media, and a tenacious drive to be a part of starting trends and not chasing them.
This is a full-time remote position, including paid vacation and sick leave, with full benefits (health, dental and vision) available. Please note, employees are expected to be available based on Eastern Standard Time hours.
You will be primarily involved with creating short-form video content for the hundreds of thousands of viewers who subscribe to our reporting, including 731,000+ subscribers on YouTube. We also have strong followings across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Bluesky, Twitch, and Substack. The person who accepts this role will also be expected to be available when news breaks — and as the leading independent outlet that reports on-the-ground, this occasionally means nights and weekends.
What We’re Looking for:
A video editor with 3-5+ years who understands how to create and drive clicky and engaging social news video content in the growing social media news video space.
- A strong social producer/editor skilled at "hooking" social media viewers in the first 3-5 seconds of a video and then keeping viewers engaged to watch the rest.
- Strong news judgment and instincts to identify the right sound bite, powerful moments from on-the-ground reporting as well as in- studio live recordings.
- A strong producer and editor who can both deliver a high quantity of social posts and videos without sacrificing quality.
News junkie who values the kind of on-the-ground, justice journalism Status Coup does and provides.
A solid understanding of popular social media platforms, trends, best practices, and their analytics.
Ability to maintain viewer engagement by responding to viewer comments.
Skilled at non-video posts: photo posts, photo carousels, curated posts on news of the day that lend a punchy flair to the Status Coup News brand and voice.
Familiarity with streaming platforms, live clipping for editing purposes.
Social Media Video Producer Duties include:
Being a part of the newsroom discussions about video coverage.
Taking video editing requests from editorial staff, including breaking news, exclusive interviews, and daily news content.
Creating multiple versions of videos for short-form and long-form video publication, based on reporting topics and story content.
Assists in social media community management by engaging in viewer comments on various platforms.
Creates graphics, thumbnails, and other additional social media content at the ready.
Works with audience development and social media stakeholders to improve video content across Status Coup News social media channels.
Collaborates with social media and audience stakeholders in social community management.
Status Coup is an Equal Opportunity Employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran, or disability status.
To apply, please forward your CV/resume, cover letter and links to 2-3 previously produced/edited short-form social media videos posted on social media to info@statuscoup.com.
