China Daily USA is seeking an experienced reporter and an experienced news editor for our New York office.
Reporter
The qualified candidate will produce daily news stories on the U.S. and China, as well as feature and in‑depth content.
Qualifications
— At least three years of experience with a daily newspaper or newswire covering hard news
— Bachelor’s degree in journalism, media, or communications
— Demonstrated strong reporting and writing skills, including a flair for feature storytelling
— Strong knowledge of international news and financial markets, particularly those of the U.S. and China
— Ability to generate original and newsworthy story ideas
— Proficiency with the internet and social media, including the ability to shoot, edit, present, and appear in videos
— Ability to work in a deadline‑oriented environment
— Willingness to work varied hours as required by news coverage
— Highly self‑motivated and self‑directed
News Editor - Bilingual in English and Chinese
The news editor should have a strong journalism background and deep expertise in China–U.S. relations. This role involves editing and producing high‑quality content. The position requires working a late shift from the afternoon through the evening.
Key Responsibilities
— Write late‑breaking news copy, edit stories, and assist in formatting news pages — Develop and execute editorial strategies focused on China–U.S. relations — Curate and write compelling content, including news summaries and opinion pieces — Stay current on major developments in U.S.–China relations and identify key issues to cover — Work a late shift from the afternoon through the evening — Stay closely connected with the U.S. team and coordinate regularly with colleagues in Beijing — Collaborate with editorial and marketing teams to refine publication content
Requirements
— Journalism background with experience in news reporting and editing — Deep understanding of China–U.S. relations, including political, economic, and cultural dynamics — Ability to write and edit fluently in both English and Chinese — Excellent editorial judgment and the ability to distill complex topics into concise and compelling content — Strong writing, editing, and communication skills
