The Covington News in Newton County, Ga. prints twice a week and publishes online  24/7.

We are seeking to fill the position of news or managing editor. 

This is a hands-on position where the editor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the newsroom. The editor works with staff and freelance journalists to plan, produce and edit the news, sports and feature content of the paper and magazines that publish throughout the year. 

Duties include reporting, writing, taking photos, assigning stories and overseeing the posting of content online and on social media. No pagination of news pages is required. 

The editor is responsible for newsroom operations, fields and mediates calls from the public, meets with politicians and various community members and handles newsroom personnel issues

The editor serves as the “face” of the paper in Newton County. 

Salary commensurate with experience.

The Covington News is owned by Times Journal Media, a 110-year-old family-owned and operated local news organization with 21 newspapers in Georgia.
