Description:
Northern New York Newspapers has an immediate opening for a reporter/editor to cover Lewis County, NY, help manage the weekly print edition of the Journal & Republican, and contribute daily to regional news site NNY360.com and the Watertown Daily Times.
Our coverage area hugs Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway, extends into the Adirondack foothills, and includes world‑famous snowmobiling trails throughout Lewis County, where this position is centered.
We’re looking for a self‑driven, curious reporter. The job is based in our Watertown newsroom, but the ideal candidate will live and work in Lewis County; Lowville, the county seat, is about a 30‑minute drive from Watertown. The role offers the chance to work with seasoned editors to produce a strong weekly print paper that is widely read. Duties include local reporting, local sports coverage, event coverage, and coordination with several contributing writers.
You will also handle breaking news and enterprise reporting, engage readers on social media, and drive daily coverage on NNY360.com.
Photography skills are required, as is a commitment to breaking stories and following them through so readers receive complete coverage day to day. Pagination skills are a plus; experience with Adobe InDesign will allow greater involvement in the weekly paper’s production and design.
The Watertown Daily Times is part of Northern New York Newspaper Corp., a family‑owned business with roots in Watertown dating to 1850. We operate in a competitive news market in a region with four distinct seasons.
This is a full‑time position with benefits, including health, dental, vision, and 401(k). Candidates should hold an undergraduate degree in journalism, English, communications, or a related field. Northern New York Newspaper Corp. is an equal‑opportunity employer.
