Job Description:
We are seeking an energetic, self-starting full-time sports writer to lead coverage in the San Francisco Bay Area. This role is for someone who loves being in the field, building relationships with athletes and coaches, and turning high school games into powerful narratives that resonate with players, families, and fans.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Attending and covering three games per week during football season, four per week during the winter and spring seasons.
- Writing 12-16 stories weekly (features, recaps, rankings, recruiting spotlights)
- Creating and publishing player/recruiting profiles
- Supporting video/photo teams with storyline coordination
- Contributing to social storytelling ideas
- Helping manage or moderate social platforms or DMs from your assigned region
This position reports directly to our editorial team and works in tandem with our growing team of creators, editors, and sales reps.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Strong writing and grammar skills (AP Style preferred)
- Passion for high school sports and recruiting
- Ability to work nights and weekends during peak seasons
- Comfortable interviewing athletes and coaches regularly
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to self-manage deadlines and weekly content output
- Must live in the assigned market and have reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous sports writing or reporting experience
- Experience with WordPress or web publishing tools
- Understanding of social media content creation and audience growth
- Background in high school or college athletics coverage
