Are you a versatile storyteller who can connect the dots between global supply chains, the future of aviation, the commercialization of the cosmos, and the daily lives of consumers? We are launching a brand-new, high-velocity Cross-Brand News Desk serving three powerhouse publications: FreightWaves (logistics and commerce), Flying (aviation), and Astronomy (space and science).

We are hiring five (5) News Journalists to break news, write deeply reported features, and provide sharp analysis across a dynamic, newly expanded set of overlapping beats. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment and love translating complex industry trends into compelling narratives, this desk is your launching pad.

Our new desk covers the infrastructure of the modern world and beyond. The 5 selected journalists will collectively own, collaborate on, and divide coverage across the following beats:

Core Industrial & Aerospace

• Aerospace & Space Commercialization: The privatization of space, satellite technology, lunar economy, and the intersection of deep tech and astronomy.

• Aviation: Commercial aviation trends, advanced air mobility (eVTOLs), regulatory updates, and the pilot economy.

• Manufacturing: Industrial production, robotics, semiconductor supply chains, nearshoring, and factory automation.

• Marine: Global shipping, port automation, maritime trade routes, and ocean freight economics.

Macro Economy & Markets

• Energy & Electricity Markets: Power grids, renewables, traditional oil and gas, utility infrastructure, and how energy shapes global commerce.

• Insurance: Risk management, climate impact on underwriting, commercial freight/aviation insurance, and consumer liability trends.

• Housing & Real Estate: Commercial warehouse/industrial real estate, housing market data, construction supply chains, and urban development.

• Enterprise: Corporate strategy, major M&A, technology integration (AI/IoT) in heavy industry, and macroeconomic trends.

Consumer, Lifestyle & Health

• Automotive: EV transition, autonomous driving technology, legacy OEM strategies, and the automotive supply chain.

• CPG (Consumer Packaged Goods): Fast-moving consumer goods, retail inventory trends, manufacturing shifts, and brand strategies.

• Consumer: Retail supply chains, e-commerce evolution, consumer spending habits, and direct-to-consumer delivery infrastructure.

• Outdoors: The outdoor recreation economy, adventure travel, gear technology, and environmental conservation impacting aviation and exploration.

• Health & Healthcare: Medical supply chains (pharmaceuticals/biotech), healthcare tech, and broader wellness/medical trends.

• Entertainment: The logistics and infrastructure behind major live events, film production, tourism, and theme parks.

Responsibilities:

• Rapid-Response Reporting: Write 2–3 high-quality, accurate news stories per day on breaking developments within your assigned beats.

• Cross-Platform Delivery: Adapt complex topics to resonate with the specific audiences of FreightWaves, Flying, and Astronomy.

• Source Development: Build a robust network of industry executives, analysts, scientists, and regulatory insiders.

• Analytical Features: Produce weekly deeply-reported trend pieces or data-driven analysis that goes beyond the "what" to explain the "why."

• All duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• 3+ years of professional journalism experience, preferably in B2B, financial, consumer, or industry-specific reporting.

• Ability to pivot smoothly from writing about maritime shipping constraints to a breakthrough in commercial satellite deployment or a major shift in the housing market.

• Comfort reading financial statements, economic indicators, and technical whitepapers.

• A proven track record of filing clean, legally sound copy under tight deadlines.
